This Other National Designations (OND) Area data contains requirements for National Designation Area boundary polygons and lines that are not included in other datasets (such as the NLCS, RECs, or LUPA data standards). These are areas designated by an Act of Congress, a Presidential Executive Order, the Alaska National Interest Conservation Lands Act (ANILCA), an Order of the Secretary of the Interior, or a Public Land Order and are administered in accordance with provisions of the enabling legislation and/or orders. National Recreation Areas have at times been included with National Landscape Conservation System (NLCS) Units in the NLCS data standard, but their inclusion has been questioned and Alaska has chosen to store them in this dataset. Areas established through the normal land use planning process (even if they are the same type of area) are not included in this dataset. Areas contained in Recreation (RECS) data standards- Recreation Management Zones, Extensive and Special Recreation Management Areas, are also not stored in this dataset.
