This data set depicts lands currently available or potentially available for selection by Alaska Native Vietnam era veterans as described in The John D. Dingell, Jr. Conservation, Management, and Recreation Act (Public Law 116-9) passed on March 12, 2019.
Due to the nature of the application review process, these data are updated frequently. To ensure the most recent data are used, it is recommended that the following map service be referenced:

If this data set is downloaded, it is incumbent upon that individual/organization to ensure the most recent data are being utilized.
The ACT makes all vacant, unappropriated, and unreserved BLM-managed public lands available. In general, reserved lands are those designated for a specific use like military bases, National Parks, or National Wildlife Refuge, or specific purposes like the National Petroleum Reserve in Alaska. Appropriated lands include lands selected by the State or by Native corporations for conveyance. Although selected lands are considered appropriated lands, selected lands can be considered if the State or Native corporation agrees to a relinquishment of the selection.

The following is a general description of the geospatial analysis used to create this dataset:
1. Combine reserved BLM managed lands into a single layer. These lands include the following: Land Withdrawals (Utility Corridor, D-1s, FLPMA), Contaminated Lands (FUDS and ADEC), Federal Mining Claims (Active and Closed - Excluded/Unconveyed), NPRA, Steese National Conservation Area, White Mountains National Recreation Area, Designated Wild and Scenic River Corridors, TAPS Right-of-Way, Mineral Material Disposals.
2. Remove reserved lands from BLM lands as depicted in the Administered Lands data set. Administered Lands is a BLM Alaska GIS dataset that combines publicly available borough, municipality, state, federal, and other entity management and ownership GIS data.

Attributes are populated through an automated process.
All input layers have been clipped to the extent of a statewide 1:63,000 coastline layer and only represent BLM Lands.
Source input layers for the Administered Lands dataset have been acquired from multiple local, state, and federal agencies on varying dates. The output is only as good as the input layers. During the process to convert each acquired layer to match a standardized data schema for Administered Lands, generalized and/or inaccurate information in the final product may result.
The horizontal accuracy is contingent upon the quality of the various input layers.
ArcGIS models and other geospatial editing functions are used to generate this layer.
