This boundary is used for analysis and cartography to display the area considered as part of the D1 Withdrawal EIS begun in August 2022 by BLM - Alaska.

Of the 5 planning areas included in this project, the coastal boundaries of two - East Alaska and Ring of Fire- were generalized to improve draw speed. Instead of outlining each island along the coast, two lines were used to represent 3 nautical miles offshore. The first line is the Outer Continental Shelf Submerged Lands Act (SLA) boundary made available by BOEM. Where the SLA linework was not available, BLM - Alaska buffered the 12 nautical mile Territorial Sea boundary identified by NOAA - Coast Survey by 9 miles to represent 3 nautical miles.

This dataset displays the boundary of the D1 Withdrawal EIS, initiated by BLM Alaska in 2022.
