This polygon featureclass depicts the boundaries of the livestock grazing allotments located on Arizona land as part of the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) grazing program. Each allotment has one or more pastures. In some cases, this featureclass identifies the BLM managed public land or other land associated with specific grazing allotments administered by the local BLM field office.
This polygon featureclass is part of a multi-purpose dataset. It will aid in the administration of these grazing allotments under the Bureau of Land Management's (BLM's) grazing program, and also in scientific, integrated land use planning or other activities that would affect, or be affected by, livestock grazing. Additionally, it provides a visual display of the grazing allotment boundaries for base map production.
The purpose of this polygon featureclass is to show BLM Grazing Allotments, which are areas of land designated and managed for grazing of livestock. It may include private, state, and public lands under the jurisdiction of the Bureau of Land Management and/or other federal agencies. An allotment is derived from its pastures, where the grazing of livestock is occurring. These attributes of the BLM Grazing Allotment features may be duplicated in range-land administration system (RAS), but are considered to be minimum information for unique identification and cartographic purposes. Boundaries may be fences, arbitrary lines, or natural barriers. Agency management of polygons within this feature class is not specific to BLM; other agencies are also included.

Attribution review was conducted at the Arizona State BLM office in 2018 and again in 2019-2020. This review consisted of comparisons between spatial grazing allotment data and range-land administration system (RAS) reporting to verify the accuracy of numerical allotment identification.
Foundational to this data is the expectation that it topologically aligns where possible and appropriate with the official published version of Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Public Land Survey System (PLSS) Cadastral National Spatial Data Infrastructure (CAD NSDI) GIS Data. Source dataset is run through a series of tests to verify that the data complies with the format specified in the Data Standard. ERRORS AND INCONSISTENCIES MAY STILL BE PRESENT IN THE DATA. Topology rules: ADMU polys and arcs must not overlap.
This data is assumed to be accurate though no official completeness tests were performed at the time of its generation. Errors by omission and generalization may be present. No data standards were in place at the time of data creation. Therefore, many process steps may be untraceable and not reproducible. Continued data validation from field office subject matter experts may be required.

The information this resource contains also pertains to geospatial data.
Original digitizing was done from allotment boundaries drawn on 1:24K USGS topo maps using a digitizing tablet. There have been many updates due to changes in boundary location and/or improved location accuracy. Some changes were implemented using a digitizing tablet while others were implemented with on-screen digitizing using a variety of background information such as aerial photos and 24K topographic maps for guidance. Allotment names and numbers were compared with the Range-land Administration System (RAS). Discrepancies were researched and corrected.

RAS table outputs are reviewed periodically and the AZ GIS Team works directly with field offices to resolve outstanding errors.
