Public lands are assigned high, medium or low sensitivity levels by analyzing the various indicators of public concern. For each rating unit the sensitivity level is analyized by each of the following factors: Type of users, amount of use, public interest, adjacent land uses, special areas and other factors. These data represent the polygon features that define the SLRU's. NOTE: This dataset is subject to update daily. Process Steps and Publication Dates are not reflected in this metadata documentation. Individual feature updates are logged automatically into the attribute table using editor tracking. BLM's Visual Resource Management system provides a way to identify and evaluate scenic values to determine the appropriate levels of management. It also provides a way to analyze potential visual impacts and apply visual design techniques to ensure that surface-disturbing activities are in harmony with their surroundings. This is a two stage process: Inventory, Visual Resource Inventory (VRI) and Analysis, Visual Resource Contrast Rating.
