The GCDB was acquired from a Premier Data contract in coordination with the BLM state GCDB Data Stewards to deliver a standardized GCDB product. This product would be capable, where GCDB data exists, to identify the State borders. Where GCDB data does not exist, in cases or rivers, lakes, and unsurveyed terrain, then alternative sources were used to identify the state boundary. Alternative sources include original 24K USGS Maps and US Forest Service Cartographic Feature File (CFF) PLSS data.&lt;/SPAN&gt;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;/DIV&gt;&lt;/DIV&gt;&lt;/DIV&gt;</idAbs>

There may remain unresolved or undetermined border differences between the adjoining states that will need to be resolved through the legal process. <suppInfo>The GCDB boundary is not always coincident with the USGS 24K map boundary for multiple reasons. These reasons include a USGS state border following a mapped ridgeline or other cartographic feature while the GCDB border follows a surveyed line. The USGS mapped boundary followed the USGS PLSS determination which may differ from the BLM GCDB PLSS determination. The GCDB surveyors did not survey to the center of the river so there is no GCDB and alternative sources of data are needed to identify the state border. The GCDB data reflects work done many years ago which may not account for subsequent topographic changes and improved surveying techniques and may appear inconsistent with current GIS mapping data. This does not represent an error with the GCDB data, but may indicate that a survey is in need of a resurvey or that a new survey is needed or that the GIS data is in need of review. Idaho Specific information: This dataset is vertically integrated with the Idaho CADNSDI Ver 1.1 GCDB PLSS data. This is Version 4 of the derived GCDB based state border and the most current. This is the state border to use for all Idaho feature classes requiring a state border. No Idaho GCDB data existed for two segments of the Montana/Idaho border so Montana GCDB data was used to identify the border line. There is no GCDB data down the Snake River so the USGS 24K DRG map border was used for only the Snake River portion of the boundary. There exists an overlap with Utah in the southeast border of Idaho. This is a known overlap and will continue to be displayed until this overlap is resolved between the two states. Ten line irregularities were removed from the boundary residing in the Snake River only.</suppInfo>

This dataset is designed to be spatially and schematically consistent with surrounding state's data to permit the aggregation into a single seamless dataset. <stepDesc>Premier data took the BLM GCDB data and developed for each state the PLSS. From that the Oregon State Office attempted to develop a seamless state boundary however problems include the following. 1. GCDB does not extend across water such as rivers or lakes. There is no GCDB boundary along the Snake River separating Idaho and Oregon, as such the state boundary was created as the centerline between the two GCDB entries. This may not be correct at all. 2. There is no GCDB entries across Bear Lake, as such a line was drawn from one side of Bear Lake to the other side and this called the boundary. 3. There is an overlap in the Utah and Idaho border. Idaho goes with the Sonnenkalb survey and Utah goes with the Hanson Survey which overlap in the southeasten boder of Idaho. The GCDB data went with the Hanson survey which does not agree with Idaho code. 4. There are missing townships in central Idaho. Oregon went with the Montana data for the state border which may or may not be correct.</stepDesc>
