Abstract:  This data set is a warehouse of completed vegetation treatment areas and associated attribute information for the BLM. Each system that currently maintains vegetation treatments will provide treatment area information on a regular basis to the treatment area data set. Vegetation treatments on BLM-managed land include Invasive Species Treatments, Emergency Stabilization and Rehabilitation Treatments, Range Improvement Treatments, Fuels Treatments and/or Forest Treatments. Vegetation treatments documented in this data set may be categorized by the general type of treatment that is used on the area being treated. These different types of vegetation treatments are Chemical, Physical, Biological, and Prescribed Fire. The first three are further categorized by the treatment sub-type. Chemical treatments are either pesticide or fertilizer; Physical treatments are alteration, planting, or removal; and Biological treatments are either classical or non-classical. Prescribed Fire is the only fire related treatment and has no sub-types. For more information contact us at [email protected].

Purpose: Formerly published as VEG_NOC_CompletedVegetationTreatments_PUB_24K_POLY This data was created in response to and supportive of BLM WO IM 2011-115, Vegetation Treatment Area Data Standard. The boundaries of vegetation treatments performed by the BLM, are important to the fire community, land health, range improvements, forest management, invasive species control, emergency stabilization, and to the BLM as a whole. They provide the locations of actions that have been taken to meet land health objectives whether through fuels reduction, emergency stabilization, and burned area rehabilitation, changing vegetation composition or controlling weeds. This data will provide the standard template for storage of treatment polygons representing the tract of land where a unique treatment is completed. The intended use of all data in the BLM's GIS library is to support diverse activities including planning, management, maintenance, research, and interpretation.

Description: The original metadata document for this feature class was upgraded from ESRI version 9 to Version 10.0, Service Pack 4 using the ArcCatalog Upgrade tool and the FGDC-to-ArcGIS transformation. The FGDC CSCGM and ESRI-ISO components of the metadata, except for the entity and attribute section, were then removed from ArcGIS metadata using the ”remove pre94 metadata elements.xslt” provided by ESRI. Process steps that had the complete Idaho BLM Form ID-9167 Geospatial Data Quality Assurance/Quality Control Authorization Page were modified to only have a reference to the document to make metadata more readable. These programmatic processes may fail or inconsistently migrate the metadata or fail to maintain the chronological order of the original FGDC metadata entries. Efforts were made to review the upgraded ArcGIS metadata; however the metadata user needs to carefully and completely read the entire metadata document and when appropriate notify the BLM distributor of any metadata inconsistencies. BLM strives to update the metadata as funding and priorities permit.

Description: It was discovered that the subtype information for Chemical, Prescribed Fire and Physical: Start Treatment Date and End Treatment Date default values were set to 1/3/1900 which is incorrect. The correct default date is 1/1/9999 which was then entered into the default values. Data existed in the data base with this incorrect date. This date was searched for and replaced with 1/1/9999. Also NOTE. Where a default value has been entered, in this case 1/1/9999, when existing data is edited, the default value will over write the original date with the default date, because of this, the default values were removed from all of the entries in the Idaho data.

Description: The data was provided by the Idaho BLM Field Offices and collected up to October 31, 2012. The data was then reviewed to make the data consistent however the original intent of the data was minimally altered to preserve the original intent of the Field Offices. An Idaho Fish and Game entry was deleted as it was not a BLM project. One line sliver was also removed. Note the following. ‘sys_trtmnt_id’ = XXXX for unknown value. This is very common for the MICRO*STORMS data. Many of the polygons also have the same ‘sys_trtmnt_id’ values. This precludes the creation of a single unique identifier ‘unique_id’ for each polygon. The ‘BLM_Acres’ column is probably meaningless. This is because there are multiple similar ‘sys_trtmnt_id’ entries and overlapping polygons which make it impossible to determine by individual polygon the BLM acres they would be associated with. The dates for the treatments are missing in many entries, the default for the unknown is 1/1/9999. This precludes certain analysis including the calculation of ‘BLM_Acres’. It is unknown if this can ever be resolved. There are inconsistencies between the correlation of the ‘trtmnt_type_cd’ and the ‘trtmnt_subtype’. This may or may not be resolved in the future. There are many occurrences where the shape geometry is exactly the same however there are different attributes associated with the polygon.

Description: The following describes the VTRT data submission to the NOC for 2013. The data was provided by the Idaho BLM Field Offices and collected up to December 6, 2013. The data was then reviewed by the ISO GIS Staff to resolve known inconsistencies where possible and to populate default entries again where possible. Note the following. ‘SYS_TRTMNT_ID’ = XXXX. This is a place holder to assist in the future clean up of the data when time permits. For the NFPORS data there may be occurrances where there are multiple same SYS_TRTMNT_ID's, these may be resolved in the future if time permits. Many of the SYS_TRTMNT_ID's are incorrect as well as they contain a Project Code rather than the Activity Code from NFPORS. These may be cleaned up in the future as well if time permits.
