The pasture dissolve to allotments is an automated process that occurs nightly. GIS Acres are typically recalculated when there are changes in the allotments but there is no guarantee that the GIS Acres are currently correct due to the infrequency of the pasture updates. This feature class depicts the boundaries of the livestock grazing allotments under the jurisdiction of the Idaho Bureau of Land Management. A pasture is a sub-unit of a grazing allotment; each allotment is comprised of at least one pasture. An allotment is an area of land designated and managed for grazing of livestock. An allotment may include private and state lands, in addition to public lands under the jurisdiction of the Bureau of Land Management and/or other federal agencies. All allotments and pastures are recorded and tracked in BLM's Rangeland Administrative System (RAS). This GIS feature class provides a spatial component to pastures and allotments. The intended use of all data in the BLM's GIS library is to support diverse activities including planning, management, maintenance, research, and interpretation. This dataset is designed to be spatially and schematically consistent with surrounding state's data to permit the aggregation into a single seamless dataset. Pastures consists of both polygon and line feature classes stored in a feature dataset in a file geodatabase; allotments are dissolved from pasture polygons. Pasture arcs and polygons should be coincident. Each allotment must have at least one pasture and a pasture cannot exist without an allotment. There should not be any spatial allotment that does not exist in RAS. Although currently RAS may have allotments that are not in the spatial data, the goal is to have the two systems match 1:1. All allotments and pastures are recorded and tracked in BLM's Rangeland Administrative System (RAS). These feature classes provide a spatial component to support RAS. GIS should have all allotments and pastures that are in RAS and no more. Some pastures and allotments extend over or are in adjacent states (Utah, Neavada, Oregon and Wyoming). These alloments are managed by the Idaho Bureau of Land Management and are not comisssions. Pasture boundaries usually follow fences, although natural boundaries, such as cliifs and rivers may be used, Original data was digitized using project and allotment maps as reference. GPS data is now used to correct locations as time/budget allows. Features may also be compared to DRG and NAIP imagery, if they are visible, and be corrected. The Allotments polygon feature class is a dissolved product from Pastures polygons. The following select by attributes command was issued to remove any allotment that did not have at least a 5 digit allotment number. There are many pastures which are not true range allotments and have allotment numbers which are less than five characters in length. This select command removes those pastures from the selection and any other pastures that do not have a full five digit allotment number. select allot_no like '_____' The dissolve was made on the selected set on allot_no.
