This polyline feature class represents the BLM National Landscape Conservation System (NLCS) National Scenic and Historic Trails in Utah. While each trail is represented by a line, they are corridors with varied degrees of accuracy. This is the best available data based on best available analysis and information.
Data within these services are a live copy of BLM Utah's enterprise production environment. Quality control is conducted annually.
National Historic Trails are extended trails that closely follow a historic trail or route of travel of national significance. Designation identifies and protects historic routes, historic remnants, and artifacts for public use and enjoyment. The Bureau of Land Management is responsible for over 5,343 miles of 11 National Historic Trails. National Scenic Trails are extended trails that provide maximum outdoor recreation potential and for the conservation and enjoyment of the various qualities – scenic, historical, natural, and cultural – of the areas they pass through. The Bureau of Land Management is responsible for over 668 miles of National Scenic Trails, which encompass the Continental Divide, Pacific Crest, Potomac Heritage, Arizona, and Pacific Northwest National Scenic Trails.

They represent the earliest travels across the continent on the Juan Bautista de Anza National Historic Trail; the nation's struggle for independence on the Over mountain Victory National Historic Trail; epic migrations on the Mormon & Oregon Trails and the development of continental commerce on the Santa Fe Trail. They also commemorate the forced displacement and hardships of the Native Americans, on the Trail of Tears. There are 19 Historic Trails.

The accuracy of attributes in this dataset reflects that of the source datasets. Attribute accuracy was tested by validating attribute coded values against accepted domain values, checking that alpha-numeric values followed a valid format, and checking that numeric values were greater than zero.
The logical consistency of this dataset reflects that of the source datasets. Each source dataset is run through a series of tests to verify that the data complies with the format specified in the Data Standard. ERRORS AND INCONSISTENCIES MAY STILL BE PRESENT IN THE DATA. These tests were conducted using ESRI ArcMap 10.1. The tests consisted of checking coded values for attributes against a domain of accepted values, checking that alpha-numeric values followed a valid format, and checking that numeric values were greater than zero. For the geometry, the topology was validated; however overlaps and gaps can still be found.
The completeness of this dataset reflects that of the source datasets.
The positional accuracy across this dataset varies according to the source.
Gather route data and determine national significance. This was done separately for each trail, under the direction of the National Park Service. National Historic Trail routes are subject to revision in consultation with the public, local and state governments, other federal agencies, and Indian tribes.
