This polygon feature class represents the spatial extent and boundaries of BLM National Landscape Conservation System (NLCS) Wilderness Areas in Utah. Per legislative authority, this data is under review for “clerical and typographical” errors. Boundary lines may not accurately align with features that currently exist on the ground, such as designated roads. Some features may be adjusted pursuant to: S. 47: John D. Dingell, Jr. Conservation, Management, and Recreation Act, Public Law 116-9, March 12, 2019. Data within these services are a live copy of BLM Utah's enterprise production environment. Quality control is conducted annually.
This polygon feature class represents the spatial extent and boundaries of BLM National Landscape Conservation System (NLCS) Wilderness Areas. A Wilderness is a special place where the earth and its community of life are essentially undisturbed; they retain a primeval character, without permanent improvements and generally appear to have been affected primarily by the forces of nature. In 1964, Congress established the National Wilderness Preservation System and designated the first Wilderness Areas in passing the Wilderness Act. The uniquely American idea of wilderness has become an increasingly significant tool to ensure long-term protection of natural landscapes. Wilderness protects the habitat of numerous wildlife species and serves as a biodiversity bank for many species of plants and animals. Wilderness is also a source of clean water.

The positional accuracy across this dataset varies according to the source. Polygon topology is present. Data were checked to ensure there are no duplicate lines, dangle errors, or label errors and that all polygons are closed.
The accuracy of attributes in this dataset reflects that of the source datasets. Attribute accuracy was tested by validating attribute coded values against accepted domain values, checking that alpha-numeric values followed a valid format, and checking that numeric values were greater than zero.
The logical consistency of this dataset reflects that of the source datasets. Each source dataset is run through a series of tests to verify that the data complies with the format specified in the Data Standard. ERRORS AND INCONSISTENCIES MAY STILL BE PRESENT IN THE DATA. These tests were conducted using ESRI ArcMap 10.1. The tests consisted of checking coded values for attributes against a domain of accepted values, checking that alpha-numeric values followed a valid format, and checking that numeric values were greater than zero. For the geometry, the topology was validated; however overlaps and gaps can still be found.

The designed primary key that will uniquely identify a single occurrence of the entity. The primary key for NLCS will be 10 digits. The first four will be “NLCS” and the last six digits will be a sequential number.
CASEFILE_NO
The serialized case number for each NLCS area. The number that refers to the serialized case file number of the group of official documents that record the facts, or actions taken, on a specific application, such as an oil and gas lease, exchange, airport lease, easement acquisition, etc. A case file sets aside the land as an NLCS, withdraws the area from certain uses, and registers this withdrawal on the Master Title Plats.
