description: This dataset contains polygons that portray Federal public lands on which Federal subsistence hunting and trapping is allowed. Federal public lands are defined in the Alaska National Interest Lands Conservation Act, Section 102 as “land situated in Alaska which, after the enactment of this Act, are Federal lands”, except for lands selected by the State of Alaska, land selections of Native Corporations, and land selections by village corporations. Only Federally qualified subsistence users are allowed to hunt and trap on Federal public lands under Federal subsistence regulations. A Federally qualified subsistence user is an Alaska resident living in a rural community or area designated as rural. Federal subsistence regulations do not apply on State lands or on private lands.
