description: Travel management is an approach to establishing networks of roads for travel and transportation including areas for both motorized and non-motorized uses. Travel management planning is necessary for designating and providing appropriate access to and across public lands for a variety of uses. Travel management plans (TMPs) and off-highway vehicle (OHV) areas are developed as part of the Land Use Planning process. This polygon feature class represents the spatial extent and boundaries for existing Off-Highway Vehicle (OHV) polygons as part of the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Travel Management Areas and Plans (TMAP). OHV polygons are purposed to show the existing OHV designation of the OHV area. An existing OHV polygon can have an "Open", "Limited", "Closed" or "Un-designated" status. The OHV designations refer to Land Use Planning (LUP) decisions (allocations) that permit, establish conditions, or prohibit OHV activities on specific areas of public lands. In 2020, the BLM Arizona State Office (ASO) Geospatial Information System (GIS) team initiated geoprocessing steps for the "ohv_exist_poly" feature class in order to establish more precise polygon boundaries. These steps are documented within the Lineage section of this metadata, but are not reflected in the footprints within the ohv_exist_arc feature class. Please note that during geoprocessing efforts, various "slivers" were created in the ohv_exist_poly feature class due to topology validation errors within Range Management Plan (RMP) footprints. Slivers are most pronounced in the following footprints: Lake Havasu field office RMP, Las Cienegas National Conservation Area (NCA) RMP, Yuma RMP, and the Arizona Strip field office RMP. It is the intent of the BLM ASO GIS team to remove slivers and align the TMAP dataset boundaries once updates are made available in reference feature-datasets such as Surface Management Agency (SMA) and Public Land Survey System (PLSS).
