The intent of this feature class is currently unknown. The data standard Implementation Guidelines appear to suggest that points apply to sites (e.g., Water-Based Site), while polygons apply to areas (e.g., Recreation Management Area). It seems that virtually any site, whether a toilet, an info center, or a day use site, could theoretically be depicted as a polygon. Furthermore, the data standard appears to conflate the matter by using both site AND area specific themes and types to describe point features. This part of the national data standard is not currently being used in the Idaho corporate data.
