Description: Initial Attack operations are the actions taken by the first units to arrive at a wildfire to protect lives and property, and prevent further extension of the fire. This dataset depicts areas in which each cooperating agency has Initial Attack responsibility when fire incidents occur. The Initial Attack Zones are boundaries that are agreed upon by all cooperating agencies and updated and maintained annually by the New Mexico BLM State Office Fire Program and GIS program with input from various Dispatch Zone boards. These zone boards have representation from all the agencies involved with Fire opperations within that Dispatch Zone. Decisions on changes or updates of the Initial Attack zones are made at the Zone Board Meetings that take place annually, usually before the height of the Fire Season.
