Service Description: The BLM OR Areas of Critical Environmental Concern (ACEC) Map Service represents administratively designated areas where special management attention is needed to protect and prevent irreparable damage to important historic, cultural and scenic values; fish, wildlife resources or other natural systems or processes; or to protect human life and safety from natural hazards within Oregon and Washington. ACECs assist BLM staff in the resource management and planning process. BLM authority to designate these areas has been mandated by Congress through the Federal Land Policy and Management Act (FLPMA). (Purpose Statement Source - Utah BLM FACT sheet).
