The BLM OR Wilderness Characteristics Map Service represents the results of an inventory of wilderness characteristics found, or not found, on BLM lands within Oregon and Washington. Areas of BLM land are evaluated for wilderness characteristics based on size, naturalness and outstanding opportunities for solitude and primitive and unconfined recreation. For each linear transportation disturbance, a decision is made whether it is considered a boundary road (e.g., meets the wilderness road definition and forms the edge of a unit) or an interior motorized or non-motorized linear transportation feature.
